Efeitos da adubacao foliar e de substratos no crescimento de plantulas de cacau

Greenhouse studies were conducted to determine the effect of foliar sprays with fertilizers on the growth of cacao seedlings and to find a suitable substrate for growing cacao in nursery at the Reconcavo Baiano, Brazil. Foliar spray of 0,5 per cent urea, applied 2 months after seed germination and at 15 day intervals thereafter, was as effective as NPK fertilizers mixed to the soil prior to sowing. This suggested that N was the principal plant nutrient which limited the growth of cacao seedlings. Mixtures of sugar cane press cake with local massape and arenito soils, at rates varying from 33 to 50 per cent, were shown to be good substrates to nurse cacao in the Reconcavo Baiano
