Variabilidade química da camada superficial de solos dos pólos cacaueiros da Amazonia

With the results of chemical analysis of 3,529 soil samples, which were collected in new cacao planting areas in Amazonia, the nutritional conditions of each area were evaluated. The amounts of phosphorous are low (minor ppm). In general, 50 percent of the samples showed potassium levels between middle and high. As to acidity, there was a predominance of pH values below 5.5 except in the Altamira area in which 50 percent of the samples had a pH major 5.6. Exchangeable aluminium had highest levels in the soils from Acre and Trombetas areas. The levels of calcium + magnesium were low in all areas, except Altamira, in which more than 50 percent of its samples showed Ca + Mg major 3.0 meq. 100 g-1, and Pré-Amazonia Maranhense, with 95 percent of its samples in similar amounts
