Studies on the genus Forcipomyia, 6: The neotropical species of the subgenus Warmkes (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)

The eight American species of the subgenus Warmkea of the genus Forcipomyia are described in all stages and illustrated. Keys are presented for identification of adults. Two new species are described: F. fishi from Florida and F. galindoi from Panama. F. narthekophora Macfie is a junior synonym of F. louriei (Macfie) (NEW SYNONYMY). Immature stages of Warmkea species have frequently been found in leaf axils of Pandanus, aroids, and epiphytic and terrestrial bromeliads, and less often in rotting cacao leaves on the ground, in banana stems, and in bracts of Heliconia. Warmkea adults have been taken in cacao flowers
