Estudos entre resistencia do cacau (Theobroma cacao L.) Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) Butl.

In preliminary tests for resistance of cacao to P. palmivora made in Bahia in which the zoospore suspension method was used some cultivars were found to be highly resistant. The cultivars deriving from the Catongo variety, in general showed resistance when inoculated in the field with zoospore suspension. However, the cultivar Sca-6 showed a higher resistance than Catongo or other cultivars. In the present study, the cultivars Sca-6, SIC-831 (Catongo) and the hybrid SIC-831 x Sca-6 were submitted to several resistance tests, employing both the zoospore and mycelium techniques. The Sca-6 cultivar was found to be practically immune when inoculated by both methods. Approximately the same degree of resistance was found in the progeny of the cross between SIC-831 and Sca-6, even though the former cultivar when inoculated with mycelium is susceptible to P. palmivora. The resistance of Sca-6 was also tested against twenty-four isolates of P. palmivora. Small lesions were produced by only two isolates
