Previous experiments made it possible to give prominence to the very varied localities in which Phytophthora palmivora could be found during the dry season. In this study, it was observed that the cocoa tree itself (bark and cushions) was the main source of inoculum for the start of the pod at attack. The presence of the parasite in the cushions varies from plantation to plantation, according to the age and mode of planting. Direct pod infection, without the involvement of zoospores, is therefore made possible by the occurrence of a dormant fungal mycelium inside the flower cushions
