Sur l'origine du cacaoyer, Theobroma cacao Linné, Sterculiacées

After a brief survey of the history of botanical knowledge about cultivated cacao trees, the problem of their origin is discussed, and the author comes to the conclusion that the two main "classes" of cultivars: Criollos and Forasteros have differenciated from a common "botanical birthplace" in the upper stream of the Amazon. He also emphasizes the possibility of a pre-columbian domestication of Forasteros in the Amazon-Guyana area by Amerindian populations
