A technique for isolating Phytophthora palmivora from cocoa cankers
A simple method for isolating Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) Butl. from cocoa cankers without using cocoa pods is described. The method involves washing pieces of cankered bark or wood continuously for 72 hours under tap water and then plating the washed materials onto soil agar. The fungus sporulates in 24 hours when contaminants have not developed. The technique is particularly useful when cocoa pods are not available
