After reminding us of the world importance of cacao and of the part taken by cacao research, the author surveys the main fields of the improvement of cacao cultivation: crop breeding, leading to the creation of inter-variety hybrids; cacao growing, now in evolution; protection agains pests and processing at the grower's stage, in order to ensure a homogeneous quality for consumers
