La determinación, por microscopio electrónico, de las dimensiones de las partículas del virus de la poliedrosis nuclear (NPV) de Anticarsia gemmatalis Hubner en Bombyx mori L.

A nuclearpolyhedrosis in caterpillars of A. gemmatalis was transmitted to the silkworm, B. mori. This might explain the occurrence of nuclear polyhedrosis in useful insects, acquired from other insects. An examination of the infected material by the electron microscope revealed the presence of particles of the virus (NPV], both in the nuclear polyhedra and the nucleoplasm of the midgut. Statistical analysis of length and width of the NPV particles for both B. mori and A. Gemmatalis indicated that they are wider in B. mori than in A. gemmatalis. NPV particles in B. mori nucleoplasm were longer and wider than those found in the polyhedra.
