The Delaware River basin

The Delaware River Basin, located in the northeastern United States, has a highly developed urban and industrial complex as well as stretches heavily utilized for recreation. The basin's waters are managed by a Federal-Interstate Commission created by compact between the four basin states and the Federal Government. The authorities, regulations, programs, and projects implemented by the Delaware River Basin Commission during its 18-year existence are embodied in its Comprehensive Plan, Rules of Practice and Procedure, Water Code, and policy resolutions. The Commission's goal is to manage the water and related land resources of the basin without regard to political boundaries. This is accomplished through a controlling Comprehensive Plan; many of the functions are carried out by signatory party agencies. The Comprehensive Plan is the yardstick against which all water resource programs and projects within the basin are measured. Some 1500 proposed projects have been reviewed since 1962 and many modified to conform with the Plan. Appropriate programs of Federal and State water resource management agencies are integrated into DRBC's Plan
