Fitossociologia e evolucao da densidade da vegetacao do Cerrado, Assis, SP

The purpose of this research was to analyse the vegetation structure and density evolution of the "cerrado", in "Estacao Experimental de Assis (S. Paulo, Brasil)". Data were collected in 34 plots from two transects (A and B). At A transect the vegetation was more dense, with the biggest trees forming a continuous tree stratum. At B transect the vegetation was less dense and the trees were smaller, forming a descontinuous tree stratum. Profile-diagram system made possible a better visualization of the data obtained from initial inventory. Evolution of the vegetal cover in the area was studied along 22 years (1962-1984) throughout aerial photographs. This analysis showed that the open areas are slowly being covered by a more dense vegetation.
