Distribuicao diametrica em uma floresta tropical úmida da Amazonía brasileira

The objectives of the present research were to test several mathematical models wich express the diameter distribuition, as well as, to verify the influence of the diameter class interval in the fitness of the tested models. The models were applied for all species in the area. The data came from 476 temporary sampling plots with an area of 2500 m2 per plot, located in the humid tropical forest of the Amazonic region, specifically from the country of Tefé and Juruá. Among the tested mathematical models, the third degree polinomial, proposed by GOFF & WEST, was the best one to fit the data. The diameter class interval of 10 cm presented better results than 5 cm to fit the curve of diameter distribuition.
