Situacao atual da silvicultura e do manejo florestal sustentado em áreas de várzeas rivular

Current situation of the silviculture and sustained forest management in river "várzeas" areas. The "várzeas" forests in the Amazon region, mainly in the Amazon State, are still responsible for up to 90 percent of the raw materials of the timber industry. However, some evidences show that the intensive selective exploration conduces to an exhausriment of impoverishment of the species with high commercial value (p. ex. Ceiba pentandra Gaertn. - Sumaúma). The wood exploration in the "várzea" forests is characterised by empiric and rudimentary methods by the absence of compromise of the timber industry with sustained forest management, by the few or nonexistent scientific knowledges related with the ecology and silviculture of the species, and by the selective exploration of species, which is resulting from the timber market. This paper, by literature review, presents some technicals aspects related to those selective exploration. It also has the objective of giving subsidies and technicals means that make practicable the utilization and exploitation of the "várzea" forests resources. Thus, making a contribution to the social-economic and auto-sustainable development of the regional forest field.
