Distribuicao espacial de árvores na floresta nacional do Tapajós

The spatial distribution of 11 species occuring in an 35 hectares area in the Tapajos National Forest in Santarem, Para State, Brazil, is examined. The method applied was the Pielou's nonrandomness index, wich is based on point-to-plant distance method. The results indicated strongly clustered distribution for nine out of the eleven species studied. The two remaining species presented approximately randon distribution. An overall analysis of the species occuring in the area also indicated a cluster distribution. None of the results exhibited tendency to uniform distribution, what confirms that this distribution seldom occurs in natural forests.
