Milk replacer for calves was tested for growth in kids with an objective to economize growth and to save milk for human consumption. Twelve crossbred kids weaned at birth were divided into two groups with mean birth weights of 3.08 and 3.48 kg and were given colostrum for the first 5 days and milk for the next 4 days, 1/20th of the live weight. The kids in group 1 continued on whole milk for 100.83 days, whereas kids in group 2 received milk replacer along with 300 g milk for 99.5 days. All kids were given preventive treatment against parasites and E. coli infection for first 7 days. Later the kids of both groups were changed to a single conventional ration for a further period of 98 days to check any carry-over effects. The milk replacer was diluted approximately 7 times with warm water for group 2. There was no difference in the rate of gains between the kids of group 1 (7.55 kg) and group 2 (6.75 kg) and they consumed milk, 87.55 and 39.55 kg, respectively. The dry matter intakes, feed to gain ratios and average daily gains were 12.12 and 15.71 kg; 1.63 and 2.38 and 74 and 68 g in groups 1 and 2 respectively. Subsequently when tested for carry-over effect for further period of 98 days, there was a weight gain of 7.60 kg in group 1 and 6.85 kg in group 2, showing no significant difference. It is inferred that kids can be raised economically with milk replacers
