With the aim of improving the reproductive performance of native goats in Venezuela different hormone treatments were used to synchronize estrus for natural breeding. The treatments were, (I) In the non-breeding season, 30-40 mg intravaginal fluorogestone acetate (FGA) sponges for 19 days, plus 500 IU of PMS 2 days (-2) before sponge removal; (II) In the breeding season, as for I but PMS was given at day -1; (III) As for II except sponges were removed after 12 days and 25 mg PGF2a was given with PMS; (IV) A single injection of PGF2a only or two injections PGF2a 10 days apart; (V) Subcutaneous implants of 2 mg norgestomet for 9 days plus PMS day -1 or 3 mg; (VI) Implants of 375 mg progesterone for 12 days plus PMS day -1; (VII) Control does running for 45 days with fertile bucks during the breeding season. Treatments FGA-PMS-PG result in maximum estrus associated with high reproductive performance. To test the sites of insemination, 136 goats synchronized by treatment II were inseminated twice, 38 and 48 hours after sponge withdrawal using 300 x 10 6 sperm as fresh semen. The sites of insemination and conception rates (mean 54.6 percent) were, vaginal (37.5 percent); superficial and deep cervical (45.9 and 51.6 percent) and intrauterine (68.7 percent). The differences were significant (P less than 0.01). Their successful use is limited by nutricional and economic considerations
