Preliminary fresh weight tables for Gliricidia sepium branches of live fences posts in the La Francia farm, Guápiles, Costa Rica

Given the importance of Gliricidia sepium live fence posts in Costa Rica and the need to gather reliable production data and to develop management techniques for their optimum management and utilization, it was thought desirable to construct production tables which can be used in other studies and practical exercises at the "La Francia" farm. One hundred branches of a range of size classes were selected from various fences at the "La Francia" farm close to Siquirres, Costa Rica. The weight of the forage and fuelwood components was measured for each branch. Regression equations relating the branch length and branch basal diameter to the green forage and fuelwood weight were calculated. Two tables were constructed using the regression formule of best fit. These tables are only valid for 5 year old live fences of Gliricida sepium with 5-and 8-month old shoots at a spacing of 1.3 meters in sites of identical ecological conditions to those of the study site.
