University involvement in farming systems

The Farming Systems Support Project (FSSP) has accomplished much in terms of bringing the interests of farming systems research and extension together through the universities, International Agricultural Research Centers and other organizations involved in agricultural development. A large collection of pertinent literature and other information has been systematically catalogued and deposited at Kansas State University. A number of universities are offering courses in farming systems research and extension and are training both international and domestic students in that methodology. The project has produced training materials and stimulated a variety of training activities. The farming systems research and extension process, which involves interdisciplinary teams of scientists working with farmers, can accelerate the development process and make it more efficient in responding to the increasing demands for food in the developing countries
