Evaluation of genetic and non - genetic factors affecting some economic traits in goats

A study was undertaken to investigate the effect of various non-genetic and genetic factors on age of first kidding, first lactation milk yield and first kidding interval in Beetal goats. Year and season of kidding and lactation lenght had a highly significant effect on milk yield. Heritabilities for age at first kidding, first lactation milk yield and first kidding interval were 0.54 ¦ 0.12, 0.25 ¦ 0.08 and 0.15 ¦ 0.09, respectively. Results indicate that selection for age at first kidding would probably result in decreasing the age at first kidding as well as increase the first lactation yield but it would also increase the kidding interval. Hence, it would be neccesary to consider both age at first kidding and kidding interval in selecting animals for the overall improvement in productivity
