Incidence of tuberculosis in BCG vaccinated and control cattle in relation to age distribution in Malawi

The incidence of tuberculosis based on the meat records of slaughtered cattle vaccinated as calves with BCG vaccine is compared with that of non-vaccinated control cattle and related to age distribution within the two groups. Vaccinated cattle have a lower incidence to tubercular lesions than non-vaccinated when no considerations is taken of the age distribution in the two groups. Dental examination of the two groups, however, shows that the vaccinated cattle are, on average, approximately one year younger at slaughter than the infection rate of tuberculosis among vaccinated and non-vaccinated cattle is similar
