Comparacao de testes indiretos no diagnóstico de mastite subclínica em búfalas

204 milk samples obtained from 51 apparently normal buffalo cows at different stages of lactation were analysed at the Agricultural Research Center for the Humid Tropics (EMBRAPA/CPATU). Testes used for analysis were Bromocresol Purple (BCP), Modified Whiteside (MW), California Mastitis Tests (CMT) and Chloride Test (CT). Of the animals, 12 (23.5 per cent) were diagnosed as positive, 8 (15.77 per cent) suspect and 31 (60.8 per cent) as negative. The majority of the animals diagnosed as positive were between the fourth and the sixth lactation. The infection had a tendency to effect only one quarter of the mammary gland without any preference. The test which presented better results for diagnosing subclinical mastitis were, WM, CMT and CT. BCP is not considered appropriated for diagnosing this type of infection in buffaloes
