Progress in breeding and selection for seed production at HMPB Oil Palm Research Station

Progress in breeding for seed production at HMPB Oil Palm Research Station, Banting is outlined. Initially, Pisifera pollen used was from non-HMPB sources, and this was replaced with the station's BM 119 Pisiferas in 1966. The current Pisiferas used are derived from further breeding and selection of the BM 119 progeny. Early trial results from the DxP progenies involving the BM822 and BM 824 (with dumpiness incorporated) pisiferas are found to be promising and these materials will soon form the new series of OPRS DxP planting materials. Several outstanding DxP progenies have been identified, and their parents are being propagated vegetatively. In the near future, HMPB-OPRS will switch to the production of clonal seeds of outstanding DxP progenies
