The soybean cyst nematode is widespread in most countries were soybean is grown, the latest recorded infested country being Brazil in 1992. The genus Heterodera is characterized by the formations of highly resistant cyst which make up the body of the dead adult female and enclose the eggs. Each female produces from 200 o 600 eggs that can survive up to 11 years inside the cyst. To date, races 3, 4, 5, 10 and 14 have in the century are susceptible to the nematode. (MV)
