Highlights of the findings of the rural women's study in the Caribbean

The study presents the socio-political background to the project by noting that governments in the region were coming out of production because of structural adjustment policies, with the hope that the private sector would pick up the slack. The more vulnerable people in the region's societies have had to suffer greater adversity, and these included rural women. In addition, the population in Guyana and Suriname had been declining due to emigration
