Overview of yam technology development in the Caribbean

The document presents the Caribbean situation from the field to the kitchen: (the main cultivated varieties and their limitations, yam in the farming systems, and propagation needs and new techniques). Continuously, environmental problems: 1) biotic environment (diseases, nematodes and other pests, and weeds); and, 2) abiotic environment. Then, the document refers to socio-economics approaches than can be found in CARDI FSR/D reports, and also in some studies conducted in Jamaica. Finally, it presents two international levels of organization that are now trying to support the yam development research and/or extension in the Caribbean. (MIBA)
