Apiculture in Nevis

The paper provides background information on Nevis, and informs on the status of the beekeeping industry in 1992 with its 19 beekeepers and a total of 90 hives of which 82 are of the Langstroth type. It refers to market opportunities for honey, and point outs that the penetration of the regional market will require technical assistance and advice on pricing, transport and how to deal with duties, especially with respect to pricing to customers. The major problems impacting the honey industry are the organization, and the fact that beekeepers are not well trained in marketing and pricing techniques. It finally refers to special projects and activities. (MIBA)
