Papel de los sectores público y privado en el sector ganadero
This paper examines the appropriate roles of the public and private sectors in the delivery of various types of livestock services, such as clinical care, vaccination, quarantine, and food hygiene/inspection, to assist governments contemplating policy reform. It applies economic principles to determine the most economically efficient channel for delivery. The factors influencing farmer demand and private veterinary supply are examined, illustrated by the analysis of breakeven levels of operation of a private veterinary practice in Uganda. Finally, the extent of public and private sector participation in livestock services delivery worldwide is reviewed. (MIBA)
