Characterization and morphology of an epizootic disease on Lagria villosa Fabr. (Coleoptera: Lagriidae) caused by the fungus Batkoa apiculata (Thaxter) Humber 1989, on cocoa farms and other properties in Bahia, Brazil

The entomophtorales fungi, widely distributed worldwide, are very important as regulating agents of natural occurrence due to the fact that they can cause epizootics. A noteworthy fact is that these fungi, if well managed, can be very useful in agricultural and forest ecosystems against insect pests. This study aims at the identification, characterization and incidence of epizootics of the entomophthoral B. apiculata in populations of L. villosa in small properties and cocoa farms under atlantic rain forest, particularly in the region of Ilhéus/Itabuna in Southern Bahia.
