Presencia del virus del mosaico del maíz en el Estado de Tabasco, México

An outbreak of maize mosaic virus (MMV) occurred in corn fields at Nacajuca, Tabasco in Mexico on March of 1981. Disease incidence was about 70%, and yield of infected plants was severely reduced. Virus identification was based on host symptoms, particle morphology, reactivity of infected plant sap with a MMV-anti serum in Ouchterlony double diffusion tests, and wansmission by field collected Peregrinus maidis planthoppers. The disease was also recorded in corn fields of other locations of Tabasco, such as Cardenas, Huimanguillo and Emiliano Zapata, but at very low incidences.
