Coccoloba porphyrostachys (Polygonaceae), a new species from the Costa Rican forest

A botanical description is given of this new species, a tree 7-10 m tall and of diameter at breast height 40 cm, from premontane rain forest in central and northern Costa Rica (800-1200 m altitude). The epithet refers to the distinctive red-purple inflorescence. The species is similar to C. tuerckheimii in some respects. Line drawings of a flowering branch, and flower detail, are included.
