Altitudinal distribution of vegetation in Chirripo National Park, Costa Rica

The altitudinal zonation of the vegetation above 2000 m is described from studies of two SW-NE transects. Four zones are identified: paramo, subalpine forest, upper montane forest and lower montane forest. The main species found in each are discussed and appendices give a floristic list in family order, with vernacular names and zones of occurrence; data are also presented in tabular form and maps are included.
