Reconocimiento preliminar de ácaros fitoparásitos del género Brevipalpus (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) de Costa Rica

Host-seeking chemical stimulants (kairomones) for the braconid egg-larval, pink bollworm parasite Chelonus sp. nr. curvimaculatus Cameron from Ethiopia were found in moth scales from lepidopterous hosts, as determined by laboratory bioassays. Host body scales stimulated a searching response in female parasites that included locomotion arrest, antennation and ovipositor probing of the substratum, and inverse klinokinesis. The response was not affected by previous mating or oviposition experience, but its intensity declined with parasite age.
