Introduction to bivariate and multivariate analysis

This book has been designed for students in the social sciences who need to have a working knowledge of applied bivariate and multivariate statistics in order to understand and evaluate research reports in the literature of their fields and to select and use appropriate statistical methods in their own research . We have assumed that the reader has had some basic preparation in statistics, including descriptive methods, the fundamentals of probability theory, an introduction to random variables and their properties (such as expected value, variance, and covariance), and elementary inferential con cepts and methods (such as 1, X², and F in estimation and in testing statistical hypotheses). Such a background can usually be obtained in a good one - semester (or two - quarter) course at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
