Indice de sitio para Tectona grandis y Bombacopsis quinata en Costa Rica y su relación con variables fisiográficas, climáticas, edáficas y foliares

Tectona grandis requires at least 1500 mm of mean annual precipitation for best growth. Mean annual precipitation showed a correlation with the site index of 50 percent. The topographical position showed a correlation with the site index of 43 percent; therefores, teak prefers flat to medium slope sites, and it's not recommended for high slopes (summits), since these present superficial and very leached soils. The analysis of folion mineral concentration in teak indicate that at higher contents of Calcium and Magnesium in the leaves, a higher site index is expected; an opposite behavior presents the potassium, where 1 percent is enough for a good growth. In pochote, the relationship of the site index with the calcium is very similar as in teak; cooper stands out of the group of the micronutrients with a quite high correlation (r = 0.89), for which the pochote needs amounts higher than 10 mg exponente -1 kg in order to obtain good growth. The site index in teak was negatively correlated with the hydric deficit (r = -0.50) and with the mean annual temperature (r = -0.47), and positively correlated with the topographical position (r = 0.42). All these correlations were highly significant (P<0.01).
