Consumo y producción de leche de cabras alimentadas con ensilaje de leñosas forrajeras tropicales

In the humid tropics of Costa Rica, the use of silage of Jocote (Spondias purpurea), Morera (Morus alba) and Amapola (Malvaviscus arboreus) for feeding dairy goats was evaluated. Silage of Morera and Amapola showed high values of CP (17.2 and 16.4 percent respectively) and good level of lactic acid (3.4 and 6.8 percent Morera silage had high IVDMD (66.3 percent). The highest DM intake and milk yield was observed with Morera (2.4 and 1.9 kg/an/day, respectively) and Amapola (2.2 and 1.8 kg/an/day). The pH of Jocote was very high being the main reason for low intake and milk yields. From the results it concluded that the use of woody forage perennials as silage represents a good alternative for fed dairy goats.
