Desarrollo del piperofos como sinergista del propanil para el manejo de Echinochloa colona resistente a propanil en arroz

Propanil resistance in Echinochloa colona is associated with a higher activity of the enzyme aryl acylamidase, which rapidly metabolizes propanil. The organophosphorus herbicide piperophos is a potent inhibitor of aryl acylamidase and synergizes propanil. The response of selected junglerice populations and rice to propanil and piperophos alone and in mixture was determined under screenhouse conditions. Piperophos was found to be an effective synergist to propanil. Addition of sublethal doses of piperophos to propanil allowed control of propanil-resistant junglerice and improved control of propanil-susceptible junglerice maintaining adequate selectivity to rice.
