Desarrollo de un plan de manejo para Quassia amara, un recurso no maderable del bosque tropical

New trends in the market have awakened interest in Quassia amara, a small tree from the tropical humid forest, recognized as a medicine and natural insecticide. The Kéköldi indian village in Talamanca, Costa Rica, was asked by a phytopharmacological enterprise to suupply 500 kg of wood per month. To determine the sustainability of this supply, Project Olafo/CATIE developed a management plan for Quassia amara in Kéköldi. Aspects such as product type, natural growing stock and biomass regulation, as well as a silvicultural system based on the species ecology, were determined.
