Spectrum of mutations induced by gamma rays and ethylmethane sulphonate in yam bean (Pachirrhizus erosus Linn.)

The frequency and spectrum of mutations induced by different doses of gamma rays and different concentrations of ethylmethane sulphonate were studied in a cultivated variety of yam bean (Pachyrrhizus erosus Linn.). A wide spectrum of morphological mutations affecting the stem, leaf, inflorescence, pod and tuber characters were noticed in the M2 generation. The frequency of morphological mutations was more in gamma rays than in EMS.
