Antigens of bovine leukosis virus and precipitating antibodies in sera of cattle
Two antigens for agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test in diagnosing Bovine Leukosis Virus (BLV) infection were compared by examination of 117 bovine sera: a dual antigen, containing both glycoprotein gp 51 and internal polypeptide p 24/25 and the Leukassay B antigen that contains only the glycoprotein. Similar results were shown by both antigens. Seven hundred and forty six bovine serum samples, collected in 65 farms of 20 counties of Rio de Janeiro State, were examined by AGID test, using routinely the dual antigen. Only 49 sera from Petropolis county were checked with Leukassay B antigen. Two hundred and one sera showed positive reactions (26.99%), indicative of BLV infection which appeared well disseminated among cattle from different regions of the State.

Dois antígenos para diagnóstico da leucose bovina (LB) pela prova de imunodifusão em gel (IDG) foram comparados mediante exame de 117 soros de bovinos: um antígeno duplo, contendo glicoproteína gp 51 e polipeptídios interno p 24/25, e o antígeno Leukassay B, contendo apenas a glicoproteína. Os dois antígenos apresentaram resultados similares. Setecentas e quarenta e seis amostras de soros de bovinos, procedentes de 65 fazendas distribuídas por 20 municípios do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, foram, examinadas pela IDG, usando-se, rotineiramente, o antígeno duplo. Apenas 49 soros do município de Petrópolis foram examinados com o antígeno Leukassay B. Duzentos e um soros apresentaram resultado positivo (26,99%), indicativo de infecção pelo vírus da LB, que se mostrou disseminado pelas diferentes microrregiões homogêneas do estado.
