Movement of clopyralid in a soil amended with olive oil mill wastewater as related to soil porosity
The effect of olive oil mill waste water (OOW) amendment on leaching of the herbicide clopyralid (3,6-dichloropicolinic acid) in soil columns has been investigated. OOW amendment increased organic carbon content of a soil and affected its porosity by reducing large pores (r > 10 μm) and increasing small pores (r < 0.1 μm). This increase of non-conducting pores by OOW amendment resulted in a reduction of herbicide leaching due to an increase of herbicide interaction with soil matrix enhancing the adsorption and degradation processes.
