In the Catalan coast, the highest abundance of jellyfish occurs in spring and summer when the majority of fish species, such as anchovy, reproduce. Fisheries of small pelagic (sardine and anchovy) account for around 50% of the total production, being their exploitation highly dependent on recruitment. Weekly anchovy landings during 2000-2012 were available from the DGPAM fishery statistics. Jellyfish bloom data was obtained from a citizen science-based monitoring program of jellyfish arrivals along the Catalan coast. Negative interactions between jellyfish bloom and anchovy CPUE were analyzed through Generalized Additive Mixed Models (GAMMs). Models showed that catches from the northern part of the study area were significantly affected by the presence of jellyfish, being not significant in the central and southern areas. These results give support to the usefulness of a citizen science-based monitoring program to evaluate the socio-economical consequences of jellyfish blooms Peer Reviewed 2016-08-30T07:38:12Z 2016-08-30T07:38:12Z 2015-02-24 2016-08-30T07:38:13Z comunicación de congreso http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_5794 2015 Aquatic Sciences Meeting.
