In contrast, the causes of this spatial variation are not fully understood at the field scale, Most attempts to explain weed distributions have concerned edaphic properties and in sorne cases (Dieleman et al., 2000; Rew & Cousens, 2001) it has been possible to associate the presence of certain species with particular soil conditions, This could be useful to improve our ability to predict future weed infestations, However no consistent correlations are frequently found (Rew & Cousens, 2001). The objective of this research was to find associations among a range of soil parameters and the abundance of winter wild oat (Avena sterilis L.) in dry-land cereal fields in central Spain.
