Livestock and environment toolbox

Livestock and Environment Toolbox. The aim of the toolbox is to provide a practical aid to mainstream livestock and environment issues in the decision making of policy-makers and planners in developing countries. The information is organised in relation to 3 categories of livestock production system, namely: Grazing, Mixed Crop/livestock and Industrial. Each category is further divided into sub-systems which are to a large extent homogeneous in terms of their impact on the environment. The toolbox can be interrogated either to explore the impact of current systems and identify options for technical or policy options to enhance the positive and/or mitigate the negative impacts, or, to explore the potential impact of a wide range of technical or policy interventions on the impact of livestock within these systems. Information on environmental impact assessment methods can be accessed directly or while addressing a specific problem it can be used to help in the identification of the underlying factors likely to be responsible for the impact on the environment. The CD-ROM also contains the text of a number of relevant publications, a search facility and incorporates a manual giving further details on how to use the toolbox.
