Ponencia presentada en la International ESSC Conference on Soil and Water Conservation under Changing Land Use celebrada en Lleida del 12 al 15 de septiembre de 2006 A new simulation model, SALTIRSOIL (SALTs in IRrigation SOILs), is presented in this work. SALTIRSOIL has been programmed in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) as a MS Excel Spreadsheet Application. SALTIRSOIL consists of two main modules, one to assess the water balance and another to calculate the major inorganic ion composition in soil solutions at chemical equilibrium. The chemical module of SALTIRSOIL has been tested by comparison with experimental data and other chemical equilibrium models. These early tests show that SALTIRSOIL has captured the chemistry of the major inorganic ions in soil solutions and natural waters. Different irrigation systems techniques have been compared within SALTIRSOIL framework. Small-scale irrigation methods seem to foster greater salt build-up in soils than more traditional irrigation methods.
