A rash of smuggling
Tanzania has closed all its livestock markets in border areas, complaining of smuggling on a massive scale with neighbouring countries. The annual loss to the country s coffers is estimated at TSH 858 million (t 1.2 million). Breeders and traders defend their methods, blaming the complexity of import-export procedures, made worse by their being written in English. Business Times, 11 September 2000
