Recent developments in management, biological knowledge, and history of the Pacific mackerel, Scomber japonicus, resource and its fishery in California and Mexico are reviewed. Currently the resource is extremely depleted, and commercial fishing has been curtailed. The 1970 year class was successful, and eventual rehabilitation of the fishery is anticipated. (15pp.)
