Max Havelaar: experiences in the fair trade of coffee
This paper examines fair trade labelling initiatives for coffee and their impact on marginalized producers. Examples of producer groups certified by the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) are presented. It is concluded that the FLO system allows producers to strengthen their negotiating power within the coffee supply chain and to invest in the quality of their production.
