Nematodes associated with different plants at the Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau, Bahia

A total of seven soil samples collected around six crop plants namely, pineapple (Ananas comosus), hot pepper (Capsicum frutescens), red-fowl (Hamelia erecta), mulberry (Morus alba), passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) and garden portulaca (Portulaca grandiflora) showed the presence of 11 genera of plant-parasitic nematodes with 15 species, and 39 genera of free-living nematodes with 49 species. The percentage of occurrence of the most common plant parasitic species in the samples collected were: Helicotylenchus dihystera (72 per cent), Xiphinema vulgare (72 per cent), Rotylenchulus reniformis (57 per cent), Aphelenchoides sp. (43 per cent), Hemicycliophora loofi (43 per cent), Meloidogyne sp. (43 per cent), Xiphinema sp. (43 per cent), Dolichodorus sp. (29 per cent), Helicotylenchus sp. (29 per cent), Meloidogyne incognita (29 per cent), Paratrichodorus minor (29 per cent), Peltamigratus holdemani (14 per cent), Trichodorus sp. (14 per cent), Tylenchorhynchus acutus (14 per cent) and Xiphinema ifacolum (14 per cent)
