The water relations of cacao
The water relations of cacao are discussed in terms of the soil-plant-atmosphere system and previous work is reviewed. The need to record plant water status in all studies relating to the water requirements of the crop is emphasized, since, without such information results obtained can have only limited generalising value. Reference is made to the pressure chamber technique for determining plant water status, and preliminary data from cacao are presented to illustrate the versatility of the method. Suggestions for future research into factors influencing the water relations of the crop are briefly outlined
