Treinamento e nivel de vida do trabalhador rural: a situacao cacaueira da Bahia

The objective of this study was the determination of the impact of labor force training on the level of living of rural workers from the cocoa area of the State of Bahia. Two groups were studied and compared: one which received the training and one which did not. All the general theoretical basis used in this work was derived from social stratification. This study involved aspects such as distribution, ownership and use of material resources and cultural advantages. The analysis of level of living was utilized as the operational model to study social stratification. The model was divided into related components to permit measure and the analysis of material and social variables, determining by this manner the quality of life of the population studied. The material indicators were expressed by the intake of calories and protein as well as housing conditions while the social indicators were studied by the conditions of work. Significant differences were found in relation to the material and cultural conditions between the two groups of workers studied. The workers who received the training showed better level of living than the untrained ones. It was noted however that the level of living of the whole population studied was deficient in relation to the main material and cultural benefits. The Chi-Square Test was used to study the significant differences between the two groups of rural workers in relation to housing and work conditions. The Student's Distribution was used to determine if the differences between the means of the indexes of calories and protein as well as housing and work conditions were significantly different
